Squid is a HTTP proxy that allows to cache web pages to a local disk and if
the page is opened again will send the current local copy, instead of loading
the page again from the web. This reduces Internet traffic and the display of
the page is faster. Particularly, the use is recommended if more than one person
at the same time wants to surf, but only a small bandwidth to the Internet is
available.
A running base flil4l system installed on a harddisk is needed.
Minimum requirements are:
CPU: 100 MHz
RAM: 32 MB
HD: 100 MB
Important: Squid is a process on the fli4l! Therefore every system that has
unrestricted access on the input list of the packet filter configuration
also has the same unrestricted Internet access over Squid. This relates to the
protocols HTTP, HTTPS and FTP!
